Vehicle Rescue Update

Geriatric Trauma

The current trend in trauma includes an increase in geriatric trauma and falls from standing height. This lecture will discuss the common injuries seen with geriatric trauma, especially brain and spinal injuries. The outcomes and use of POLST orders will also be discussed.

Snakebite! More than Just a Beverage
Presented by Dr. Antony Pizon

This presentation discusses treatment of snake envenomations for the prehospital provider. The discussion will include common venomous snakes found in North America, clinical features of snake envenomations and prehospital treatment. The lecturer provides multiple graphic pictures of typical snakebite victims from firsthand experience.

STEMI

There are several online web based STEMI courses available, but none met all of the needs of the region.  Simplicity, length of course, and cost were found to be issues when reviewing these programs by the EMSI STEMI Committee and the Regional Medical Directors.  The STEMI Education Subcommittee developed a course that met all of the needs mentioned.  The course is presented in a live class room setting starting with a module 1 introduction to 12 lead acquisition and interpretation with lots of hands on practice.

Scenes of Violence

Think scene safety is a joke? Think it doesn't apply to you? Join Jennifer for this retrospective view of times when EMS providers have been targeted, injured and killed. Current events will be highlighted, including the widespread violence perpetrated against EMS providers over the past year in the United Kingdom.

Hybrid & Electric Vehicle Rescue Issues

Tactical EMS in Unplanned Scenarios

Over ten years of military experience has brought extensive changes to how EMS supports law enforcement operations. Dr. Martin-Gill will provide a case-based discussion of in-flight medical emergencies that any healthcare provider may be called upon to assist. A recent review of over 11,000 in-flight medical consultations provided by the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center will be discussed. The availability of onboard medical kits and equipment and professional liability will be discussed.

Drugs of Abuse

Everyone knows about cocaine and heroin. However, this discussion will focus on the less common encountered sexy drugs of abuse. PCP, GHB, LSD, ecstasy and other designer stimulants will be reviewed. OTC drugs that are abused will be discussed as well. The lecture will focus on presenting signs and symptoms and emergency stabilization of intoxicated patients.
