William Miller CEU: 1.0 Clinical Pa ent Care KEYWORD: MEDICAL Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a medical condi on that occurs when a blood clot forms in a deeper vein, most o en in the legs. Some mes pieces of the DVT can break off and travel to the lungs, causing a pulmonary embolism (PE). DVT and PE are: fairly common; can happen to anybody; cause serious illness, disability, and all too o en are fatal. But do you know what to look for, and how to treat it, in the pre-hospital se ng?
